A mural of a sneezing woman by Banksy has appeared on a house at the end of what is said to be England’s steepest street in the city of Bristol, the birthplace of the elusive street artist.
Banksy, whose true identity is a closely guarded secret, took credit for the work via his official website and Instagram account on Thursday.
One photograph, posted by the artist, has been made to appear as if the woman’s sneeze has blown over a trash can and turned a passerby’s umbrella inside out.
Banksy’s “Aachoo!!” post has already been liked over 2 million times on Instagram.
The stencilled artwork was found on Vale Street, one of Britain’s steepest residential roads, with a slope of almost 22 degrees. Many of Banksy’s earliest murals appeared in Bristol, leading many to believe that the anonymous artist hails from the southwestern city. This is just the latest work revealed by Banksy during the pandemic.
The owners of a house in Bristol have apparently pulled out of the sale of the property after a Banksy piece appeared on the wall which had a sold sign up outside. They were due to exchange contracts next week but the artwork could see the value of their house rocket.
Nicholas Makin, whose mother Aileen owns the property, said people had been climbing over the house to get a better look at the new piece.
It is not the first Bansky to spring up during the pandemic. In October, the artist confirmed he was responsible for a mural depicting a girl hula-hooping with a tyre that appeared in Lenton, Nottingham.
In July, he also claimed responsibility for graffiti entitled If You Don’t Mask, You Don’t Get on a London Underground carriage depicting rats sneezing and others in face masks. It was later removed by Transport for London under its anti-graffiti policy.
